Cost of Renovating a Bathroom

Cost of renovating a bathroom - How much does it cost to renovate a bathroom in Ottawa?

The cost of renovating a bathroom is fairly standard because most 3 pcs bathrooms are a standard 6'*8' or 5'*7'. Often we will get the same request for a bathroom, which is gut and install a new tub and surround, flooring, toilet, vanity, trims, paint and fixtures. This, with minor variances, is what the standard bathroom entails. The cost of remodelling a FULL 3 pcs bathroom is anywhere between $8,000- $15,000 depending on size, plumbing location, and how much custom work is involved.

Bathroom Renovation Cost Variables

The biggest variable in the cost of the bathroom renovation is the shower area. Shower areas are very sensitive. Going with a prefab shower is always much cheaper than a custom shower area. Custom showers can blow up a budget because they require so much intricate detailed work and everything has to be special ordered. Waterproofing a custom shower is also much more difficult which ads more to the price. If you are renovating on a budget definitely stick with the prefabs as they are significantly cheaper.

Heated floors in bathrooms although nice are also an expensive thing to accomplish. The systems range in price but they add upwards of 10% onto the overall price.

Cost of Relocating a Bathroom

Relocating a bathroom adds a significant amount of extra plumbing, electrical and transitional work. It is always more economical to stick with the original layout. Costs for relocating a bathroom can add up to 20-30% of the total budget, much more if the bathroom is far from any plumbing stack and is not in the relative same area as the original. A big cost for relocating a bathroom comes from having to patch up where the existing bathroom is and making the new bathroom watertight.

Cost of a Bathroom Tile Surround

Most homeowners who have a decent bathroom but want to update the look will choose to change the tile surround. Sometimes they do so because of water penetration. Either way it is a very popular bathroom renovation. The cost of changing a tile surround in a bathroom is anywhere from $2500 - $4500 depending on a lot variables such as is the insulation behind the wall moulding, the choice between installing cement board or greenboard, the choice between it tile or natural stone being installed...etc

Cost of Adding a Bathroom in the Basement

Adding a basement bathroom is a little more expensive than a standard bathroom renovation cost. Usually a basement bathroom that is NOT part of a finished basement costs between $10,000 - $12,000. Adding a basement bathroom while finishing your basement can drastically reduce this cost by thousands of dollars.
